Hamlet Essay
Hamlet Essay Hamlet Essay Who Would Make A Better Leader: Hamlet or Fortinbras? Often in literature, minor characters in a play can be essential in bringing the main characters to where the audience can better understand them. They also push or pull major characters into actions or decisions that affect the rest of the play. Plus they reveal the emotions and personalities of other characters because they give us someone to compare and contrast the characters with. In Hamlet, Fortinbras, the Norwegian Prince, would serve as the better leader of Denmark, compared to Hamlet because his quest for revenge consumes him, Hamletââ¬â¢s mental instability, and procrastination. Both, Hamlet and Fortinbras lost their fathers and have sworn to avenge their deaths; Fortinbras is a perfect parallel of Hamlet. He is very crucial to the play's ending and to bring a remedy to the corruption that has afflicted Denmark. Fortinbras father, King of Normandy, was killed during battle for control of "a little patch of ground"(Shakespeare, IV. iv.19). Fortinbras' uncle claims the throne of Norway just as Hamlet's uncle takes the throne of Denmark. The deaths of Hamlet Sr. and Fortinbras Sr. directly link the common destiny of Fortinbras to that of young Hamlet, to avenge the death of his father. It is because of this that the two young soldiers can be compared to each other. Fortinbras' taking action after his reasoning is contrasting to Hamlet's continual sidestepping towards revenge. Hamlet realizes this and contrasts himself to Fortinbras in his "How stand I then"(Shakespeare, IV. iv. 59) speech and labels Fortinbras as a man of action and labels himself as a man whos e words lead to a man of thinking. Hamlet calls him "a tender prince"(Shakespeare, IV. iv. 51) after speaking with a captain in his army and hearing of Fortinbras' progress with his army. It inspires Hamlet and pushes him forward in carrying out his plan to avenge his father by murdering Claudius. Hamlet's lines about his thoughts being blood or nothing say that he has been won over by Fortinbras' idea and is ready to become a man of action who at any cost is ready to extract revenge. It can be said that Fortinbras is an energetic leader and soldier with clear intentions and determination from the way he clearly thinks things through and acts just as quickly to assemble men to attack Poland. Although Fortinbras says that Hamlet was a soldier by ordering captains to carry him out and to fire the cannons in his honor. Every hero has a tragic flaw, and for Hamlet, it is his tendency to procrastinate. Hamletââ¬â¢s procrastination is the reason he wouldnââ¬â¢t be a very good leader. To be a good leader, you would need to be focused on your country and the issues that you have, instead Hamlet would be focusing on unnecessary issues. Hamlet enters, speaking thoughtfully and agonizingly to himself about the question of whether to commit suicide to end the pain of experience. ââ¬Å"To be, or not to be: that is the questionâ⬠(Shakespeare, III.i.58). My Experiences during Last Years Summertime Vacation in Puerto Rico Essay - 3
My Experiences during Last Years Summertime Vacation in Puerto Rico - Essay Example This essay describes my experiences during last yearââ¬â¢s summertime vacation in Puerto Rico. The beaches I visited during my stay in El Conquistador are the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. During my second day on the island, I took a field trip to a beach in the southwestern part of the island called La Jungla. I felt like Leonardo Decaprio when he first saw the beauty of the forbidden beach resort in the movie The Beach. It was all nature; one could see the crabs in sand and fishes in the clear crystal water. Five minutes from this incredible beach there was a little village with several bars and restaurants. I ate in a place where they served me a classic Puerto Rican dish called ââ¬Å"Mofongo con Carne Frita y Caldo de Pescado.â⬠The plate is fried plantain with fried meat and fish stock. It was delicious and only cost like six bucks; exquisite taste at the price of a burger combo. The reason I chose El Conquistador as my preferred hotel apart from its reputation of provided great service which proved to be true is that it was located eight minutes away from El Yunque National Forest. El Yunque is the only tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest System. This is a mystical region that is out of this world. There was wildlife all around us as I walk through the moist roads within El Yunqueââ¬â¢s territory. I reached a river and as I walked around a huge rock I suddenly saw a 30 feet waterfall. I could hear the singing of the Coquis. Coquis are a rare amphibian creature that can only survive in Puerto Ricoââ¬â¢s system. Scientist in the past have tried relocating Coquis, but before reaching a foreign-located the Coqui dies. My summer trip to Puerto Rico in 2008 was a tremendous adventure.

The Conquest of Mexico Essay Example for Free
The Conquest of Mexico Essay We all know that to a story there are always two sides. The story can have a great change depending on what side is telling the story. We can argue the same thing to the devastating Spanish conquest of Mexico. That was Stuart B. Schwartz, a Professor at Yale University main objective to give the reader a detailed view of the Spanish conquest of Mexico both by the Nahua and the Spanish perspective presenting a balanced and fair collection of European and Native American sources complemented by his own expert analysis. Victors and Vanquished demonstrates that personal interest, class and ethnic biases, and political opinions can influence the interpretation of events. While the tragic events still lead to the Spanish conquest both sides of the story recall the motivations of the conquest from very distinct ways, in addition I think that it is important to look at the greed and lies to the Spanish conquest. Schwartz in the introduction provides the reader with a comprehensive description of the Mesoamerica and Spanish society. This includes the end of the Classic Era and how Mexica Empire rose to power and how it expanded through all of Central America. The most notable theme in the whole story is the greed and lies that almost every single character represents in the story. The Mexica for example make the foundation of Tenochtitlan where there is estimated that is was occupied by more 150,000 people. The Mexica sacrifices and torture people from other tribes making them the most dominate empire of Central Mexico their city Tenochtitlan was a great example of this too ââ¬Å"Gazing on such wonderful sights, we did not know what to say, or whether what appeared before us was real.â⬠Bernal Diaz knew the Mexica Empire was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen. Werenââ¬â¢t the Mexica people greedy too? They sacrificed people, children and animals to their God Huitzilopochtli, Tlà ¡loc, Huehueteotl and Tezcatlipoca to obtain what they needed. On the other side of the world the Spanish had been fighting for Catholicism most of the European countries were converted to Christianity. Popes dominated the society but they as the same King and lowest rank solider had the same vision, Money and power. Conquistadores had been traveling around the world trying to find lucrative amount of goal, taking over territories sometimes already occupies, and making the native people slaves to their commands. Bernal Diaz in his second writing speaks of Hernan Cortez setting foot in Tenochtitlan and meeting with some representatives of Montezuma. Diaz describes the encounter differently of the real intentions of Cortez. He explains that Cortez treats the representative with kindness and leaves the representatives with a good impression of him. He says that he is there only to trade with the Indians and nothing else. Cortez believes that Montezuma has gold hidden somewhere and for this he sends back the representatives some presents Montezuma received these gifts but he desired not to be interview in other words he didnââ¬â¢t want asked questions instead he send Cortez fine gift a helmet filled with gold instead of making new friends Montezuma fell in trap that Cortez secretly desire to know if there were fine mines in Tenochtitlan. Therefore the Spanish conquest was not a massacre it was a well brought plan by the conquistadores full of lies and greed. The Mexica wouldnââ¬â¢t of fall into their plan if they too werenââ¬â¢t greedy and would just stick to their own cultivations and own resources.

The Cloning of Human Beings :: Science Papers
The Cloning of Human Beings I examine five concerns held by the general population regarding human cloning and argue that they show either a misunderstanding about the process and/or result of cloning, or else ignorance about what we already do. Put differently, I argue that human cloning is not in principle more questionable than other current practices. However, I do have serious concerns about the uses to which the new technology will be put. I argue that the reasons currently proposed for human cloning are not persuasive. My position is that human cloning is not objectionable in principle, but practical application of the technology raises serious concerns. In my opinion, present circumstances do not seem to warrant it. As soon as Scottish scientists announced that they had successfully cloned a sheep from cells of another sheep, people began to be alarmed at the prospect of cloning human beings. Editorial after editorial warned that we'd be "playing God", that we'd be creating Frankenstein-like soul-less creatures, and that we'd be encouraging people's tendency towards egoism to reach its ultimate expression by enabling human beings to clone themselves. President Clinton banned all federal funding for research leading to the cloning of human beings and called for a voluntary moratorium on private research. Pope John Paul II denounced "dangerous experiments" that harm human dignity. I, too, have some concerns about cloning human beings; but I think that most of the fears people have are misplaced. As a philosopher who has worked on issues concerning personal identity and, more recently, medical ethics, I have a different perspective on the issue of human cloning from most commentators. Perhaps I can make a useful contribution to the discussion of this topic. I would, first, like to examine five concerns the general population seems to have about cloning human beings and argue that they show either a misunderstanding about the process and/or result of cloning, or else an ignorance of what it is that we already do. I shall argue that there is nothing in principle more questionable about the cloning of human beings than practices we currently engage in. However, I do have two serious concerns about how the new technology is likely to be used; and, since I am not convinced that that there are any really good reasons at the present time for cloning human beings, I too would vote against permitting it. I 1. It has been claimed that if we cloned human beings that we'd be "playing God.

Socioeconomic Status Ses Health And Social Care Essay
Socioeconomic position ( SES ) has been studied and proven to hold a direct consequence on general wellness and well-being but what consequence does SES hold on mental wellness? The effects of SES on mental wellness results were outlined in subdivisions of a survey called Socioeconomic Status and Health: The Challenge of the Gradient ( SESSH ) . The SESSH survey states ââ¬Å" Persons higher in the societal hierarchy typically enjoy better wellness than do those below ( Alder et. al 1994 ) , this includes mental wellness and it ââ¬Ës all of its related diseases. Several other surveies such as the Childhood Socioeconomic Status Is Associated with Psychosocial Resources in African Americans: The Pittsburgh Healthy Heart Project ( Beatty et. al 2011 ) , conducted by the University of Pittsburg aid to confirm the findings from the SESSH survey done several old ages before. One of the major effects of lower SES position on mental wellness is the deficiency of entree to mental wellness attention. Whether urban or rural the hapless have more trouble in deriving entree to decently trained medical forces and installations to cover with the jobs sing the mental wellness ( Grembowski et. al 2002 ) . The paper, Rural Communities Suffer Poor Mental Health Care ( Association of Schools of Public Health 1974 ) highlights some of the issues unique to the rural hapless in America and the mental wellness issues that surround the community. The current research shows that SES plays a major function in the mental wellness of patients. Major emphasis factors from the effects of lower SES get down to take its toll on the mental wellness of persons populating in high poorness countries ( Leventhal et. al 2003 ) . In the survey Socioeconomic Status and Health: The Challenge of the Gradient it states the ââ¬Å" Socioeconomic position is related to both major depression and depressive symptoms â⬠( Alder et. al 1994 ) and to an addition of ill will and anti-social activity and suicidal behaviours. ( Alder et. al 1994 ) . SES besides leads to an addition in psychological emphasis that can finally trip greater perceptual experiences of emphasis and negative emotion. These perceptual experiences are known to change neuroendocrine response and assorted other physiological alterations ( Alder et. al 1994 ) . The deficiency of entree to proper mental wellness attention is a major factor in the long term wellness results of tho se in lower SES groups ( Grembowski et. al 2002 ) . Further back uping the survey Socioeconomic Status and Health: The Challenge of the Gradient, the survey Childhood Socioeconomic Status Is Associated with Psychosocial Resources in African Americans, shows that SES is non merely a factor in finding mental wellness but besides has an consequence on the ability to entree the household and community support in early childhood might hold played a possible mitigating factor ( Beatty et. al 2011 ) . The survey shows, that in African American topics, the intercession of positive household and community involvement early in childhood could positively impact subsequently psychological wellness but that lower SES general prohibits the positive household and community support demand to antagonize the degrees of emphasis and hapless self-perception in lower SES persons ( Beatty et. al 2011 ) . The article, Traveling to Opportunity: an Experimental Study of Neighborhood Effects on Mental Health, farther address the thoughts that community and poo rness, cardinal facets of SES, have on mental wellness results ( Leventhal et. al 2003 ) . Families that moved from lower SES position vicinities to higher 1s had a lessening in the presence and badness of depression and other psychological issues ( Leventhal et. al 2003 ) . The articles, through the usage of studies and long term patient surveies, are able to demo the direct effects of lower SES on psychological wellness. The information shows that long term exposure to the emphasis of lower SES leads to several types of psychological upset including depression, feelings of lower dignity and assorted other clinical issues including terrible alcohol addiction and drug dependence ( Alder et. al 1994 ) . The surveies did an first-class occupation of showcasing the issues affect lower SES groups but could hold been more convincing in their methodological analysiss. The information from the research validates the fact of lower SES straight affect psychological wellness but fail to take into history several variables which would let for incredulity. Each of the articles fails to turn to whether the psychological issues are straight linked to lower SES from the deficiency of instruction of approximately positive life style picks and deficiency of instruction a bout entree to wellness attention, is the higher incidents of mental unwellness merely because the hapless have less instruction on healthy life styles and how to seek intervention. The consequences could be strengthened by utilizing greater cross subdivisions of the lower SES communities, over longer periods of clip and supplying basic instruction on how to entree intervention to see if mental wellness issues are genuinely related to SES or if there are other factors that contribute. With the exclusion of Traveling to Opportunity: an Experimental Study of Neighborhood Effects on Mental Health, none of the surveies attempted to see if the conditions were reversible by taking the topics form the lower SES environment. If remotion of the topic from the environment produces clear positive consequences in a big survey group you could more easy find that SES is a clear factor in the patients ââ¬Ë wellness.

Media Rationale and Publicity of the Christian Louboutin...
Media rationale and publicity Ever since Christian Louboutin opened his flagship store in 1991, his brand has pursued a marketing strategy that has focused upon shoes as art rather than shoes as functional objects of clothing. Most of his shoes are famously uncomfortable, and when speaking to a fashion reporter from the New Yorker, Louboutin stated he was proud of the difficulty that women had ambulating in his footwear (Collins 2011: 2). However, unlike some luxury or high-end fashion shoe companies, Louboutin does not market his shoes as trendy. He is uninterested in shoes that are flat, regardless of the current vulgarities of consumer demand. Instead, his shoes are intended to be an assault on the eyes and on good taste, incorporating motifs from Salvador Dali and David Lynch into their design. To promote his shoes, rather than price them at a variety of price points, Louboutin has kept the pricing extremely high at every level of the brand. This has cemented his reputation as a luxury brand of note. His shoes have topped Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) since he became a breakout star in 2007 onwards (Collins 2011:2). To wear a custom Louboutin means that a consumer has the ability to pay as much as $10,000 for a shoe with expensive fur or jewels. Louboutin sells more than five hundred thousand pairs of shoes a year, at prices ranging from three hundred and ninety-five dollars, for an espadrille, to six thousand, for a super-platform pump covered in thousands ofShow MoreRelatedMarketing Management 14th Edition Test Bank Kotler Test Bank173911 Words à |à 696 Pagesdisintermediation D) cross-selling E) customization Answer: A Page Ref: 10 Objective: 3 Difficulty: Moderate 29) Companies address needs by putting forth a ________, a set of benefits that they offer to customers to satisfy their needs.
